Arthur Hayman is an aspiring children's author, but his career doesn't take off until he is killed by a cement truck and his books are championed by an American who worms her way into his family. As the popularity of the series grows, Arthur's adult children must learn to deal with their unwanted celebrity. Fans of allegorical fantasy (like the Chronicles of Narnia or even the Harry Potter books) will be drawn to Arthur's novels, which are set in a magical land but are based on his son's adventures in the woods near their Dorset home, while others will be drawn to the unusual storyline and tragic (and sometimes downright creepy) characters.
